Jaycee is a beautiful and talented writer. She is the creator and resident writer at LIGHT-A-LAMP (www.lightherlamp.com), and a co-author of the book ‘In my dreams it was much simpler’.
She has been writing and making waves in Blogsville for a while now. I truly believe she is one to watch out for because something awesome is about to break forth from this young lady. The world will most definitely be in awe.
Jaycee is our guest writer today. She is here to tell us a bit about herself and encourage us along the way.
Take it away Jaycee……….
Q: Hey girl, not that I need to say it, but I am a big fan of your blog. I am always intrigued with way you declare your love for God, and share the awesomeness of who He is, through storytelling, amongst other things. How, when and why did you start the fabulous Lightherlamp blog?
A: Thank you for always reading. I’m appreciative to God for starting this great thing. The first post was written on September 3rd, 2006. I was reading another blog at the time, and I got inspired to start one myself. I found my voice and wanted to shout from rooftops about my First Love.
Q: One of my favourite articles on Lightherlamp is (The Clutch Purse, Hope, January 14 2008). I love the way you captured the attention of the reader here with that simple story and delivered the message of hope without compromise. Where do you get your endless inspiration from?
A: Inspiration comes from every-day life, the activities of the day, the light-bulb moments which occur whenever something new is learned about God’s character & His Word, and anything else that makes me smile. I believe that underneath all of these things lies the voice of the Holy Spirit, and when I take that time out to listen and write, He speaks.
Q: Not too long ago, you and fellow bloggers were involved in a writing collaboration of the book ‘In My Dreams It Was Simpler’. What was that experience like?
A: It was a new experience. I had to learn to see through the eyes of other writers and be objective about my own writing. More than anything else, I’m grateful to have been part of a group of people who are going places with their unique writing styles. We are currently in the background writing the ultimate finale which we hope will keep our readers on the edges of their seats. Hopefully, people will love the final publication of the book.
Q: What was the last crazy/funny thing that happened to you recently?
A: I haven’t peeled an orange in many years, but this week I did. I peeled it just the way those fruit traders in Lagos markets peel their oranges- in smooth, well-defined rings (or at least I tried to). The excitement just from peeling oranges was so silly it made me laugh.
Q: Can you share with us one of your favourite uplifting and inspiring quote, and why it is a favourite?
A: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.” Marianne Williamson.
It is one of my favourite quotes because it’s the truth.
Here is an encouraging piece from Jaycee. Enjoy and be blessed
Falling In Love With a Stranger
Only pure unadulterated anticipation can make a woman swoon over a stranger like that. Why wouldn’t she? She’s known him more than anyone can ever know him, this man she’s never met. Not just about him as though it were only a story of hear-say, but more of a deeper revelation of who he is. But of course, she should, right? He’s been existing in her head for the most of her early twenties, and now that she’s approaching thirty, he appears more clearly in the nooks and corners of every part of her wandering heart.
She walks to her bedside table, switches on the small lamp, and confidently pulls out “The List” from the top drawer. The Japanese paper feels light to the touch and crumbles underneath her fingers due to the number of years it has been stowed away down under by she who will never reduce it to shreds.
Scrolling down the page with her eyes, she points to the mentions of him on the page and throws her head back, bursting into melodious laughter. She’s in love with him, and she cannot lie. Neither can she wait to meet this warrior of a man.
She caresses the sheet of paper and stares on for a little while. One day…and hopefully soon…this man she already loves will be hers to keep. She hasn’t met him yet, but she will someday.
*****************************************************************************************************
How does one fall in love with a stranger? Oh, it may seem absurd and crazy, but I tell you, we all fall in love with the depictions of people we want to be with. We make lists and we build priorities, hoping that some day these definitions would be ours.
But I want to introduce the One who fell in love with you before you were born. In the space of time preceding your existence, He created you and placed you in your mother’s womb. The extent of His love caused Him to give you a special name, and that’s what He calls you each day. How could He love you before you were born? I don’t know, but He chose to fall in love with every atom in you.
No matter how far you stray from Him, He owns the list where He’s written about you. Your imperfections are not on His list, but your potentials ar. He does not look at you with the eyes of a human being, but with the eyes of a loving Father who knows about you and understands what you’re capable of in this life. We might be strangers to ourselves, but we’re no strangers to Him. He already knows.
And if He can love us before we knew Him, what stops us from loving others despite their imperfections? Someone once preached to me, “Forgive people before you meet them.” And these days, I try to.
If God can fall deeply in love with me before my organs were formed, then what should stop me from falling in love with an imperfect stranger? Or with the people around me who I already know?
May we begin to love others deeply like God loves us. Despite the flaws, or how they respond to us, or how they reciprocate. Let us learn how to make lists of the potentials of those around us, and let us call them by the name which God calls them by, knowing that He called those things that be not as though they were. We can also love recklessly like He does.
“We love Him because He FIRST loved us.”
1 John 4:19
Amen. We definitely must love others the way God loves us. When we really think and examine it all through, the beginning and end of God is love, and as we are made in His image, we must live out the intricacies of who our Father is — LOVE!.

Thanks for sharing those words Jay. Indeed, He is our first love and the priceless thing about His love for us is that it is not conditioned upon any of our qualities but in His infinite mercies towards us.
